• There Was a 5% Increase in the Number of Registered Business Women in 2008.

     In the latest statistics published by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam had the largest number of registered business women in 2008. Jeddah was closest to Riyadh with 2,257 registered business women with hardly any change from the statistics recorded the year before. Dammam was third place with only 1,756 registered business women, with an increase of 339 women. These statistics show a 5% increase in the number of business women with an increase of 804 women last year for a total of 15,583 registered business women.
    The number of registered trademarks last year reached 1,393 while the number of commercial licenses for gold shops issued by the Ministry of Commerce reached38. The number of free trade licenses issued reached 81 and the number of commercial agencies registered with the Ministry of Commerce reached 106. The number of registered business offices in the Kingdom was 13, 161.
    However, in the same year 348 businesses were registered in Abha, 143 less than the year before. In Baha 80 businesses were registered, 109 less than the year before. In Yanbu 155 businesses were registered, 13 less than the previous year. In Madinah 681 businesses were registered, 133 more than the previous year. Taif registered 253 businesses, 21 more than the previous year. Mecca registered 5 less than the year before with a total of 429. In Tabuk 192 businesses were registered, 21 less than the year before. Arar registered 250 businesses, 19 less than the previous year. And Skaka registered 89 businesses, 26 fewer than the year before.
    In Hail 361 businesses were registered, 154 less than the year before. In Hafr Al-Batin there were 25 more businesses registered than last year with a total of 234 businesses registered. In Ahsa there were 322 businesses registered, 180 less than the year before. In Jubail there were 13 more businesesses registered than the year before, with a total of 319 registered. In Wadi Ad-Dawaasir there were 39 businesses registered, 21 less than the year before. Buraidah went down by 267 from the previous year but still registered 674. Unayzah had 252 fewer registrations than the previous year, registering 160 businesses. Az-Zulfa registered 19 businesses, 10 less than the previous year. In Majma'ah there were 49 businesses registered, 5 fewer than the year before. In Ad-Dawaadimy 171 businesses were registered, 24 fewer than the year before. Shaqra registered 32 businesses, 15 less than the year before. Riyadh had the largest number of registered businesses with a whopping 3,715 new businesses registered, 5 more than last year.
